Virginia Alleman Memorial Scholarship

Student continuing at Golden West College with a 2.5 GPA.

Virginia Alleman moved from Las Vegas, Nevada to Huntington Beach with her three teenagers in 1967 to accept a position as one of the first librarians hired at Golden West College. Her entire life was spent helping others from wounded soldiers, students learning to master the complexities of the English language, and men and women incarcerated seeking spiritual guidance. In 1994 Virginia was honored by Golden West College and received the Outstanding Citizen Award for her commitment to improving her community. She celebrated cultural diversity by learning more about the people around her and respecting their differences. Her children all attended Golden West College and offer this scholarship in her memory as a way to recognize their mother’s contributions to students and an educational system that was such a big part of her life.
