Ernie Moersch Memorial Scholarship

2.0 GPA; Physical Education major
The athletic spirit was embodied in Ernie Moersch. Sports were an important part of his life. Ernie was orphaned at the age of two, and sports provided role models and stability. He began boxing at 12 years of age. He then went on to play football and baseball for the United States Marine Corps. One of his jobs in the military was to oversee the athletic department at El Toro Marine Base. In so doing, he gained the respect of and nurtured lifelong friendships with fellow athletes. In his 40’s, Ernie became the equipment manager for Golden West College. He loved working with the young athletes, and although he ran a “tight ship,” Ernie managed to endear himself to many.
