John Warner Hopkins, Ron Quigley/O'Neill Sportswear and Mary L. Wise Memorial Fine Art Scholarship

2.7 GPA; Art major. A student who has demonstrated talent in the visual arts and is serious about art as a career and continuing their studies at Golden West College.

This scholarship is a blend of the John Warner Hopkins, Ron Quigley/O’Neill Sportswear, and Mary L. Wise Memorial Fine Arts Scholarship. June and John Hopkins established this scholarship for students studying for a career in art. Ron Quigley was a professional surfer and a full-time art student who excelled in various areas of the arts before his accidental death in 1986. Ron’s life was a unique expression of love and creativity, and the faculty at GWC enjoyed his multiple talents as an art student. The art scholarship was established by O’Neill Sportswear with whom Ron had a contract to provide creative artwork and clothing design. Mary Wise, a counselor for Fine Arts at GWC for many years, was instrumental in developing the college’s Commercial Music/Recording Arts Program. Named Outstanding Educator of America in 1974, she is fondly remembered by colleagues and friends for her total commitment to GWC. The scholarship is awarded to fine arts students.
