Richard W. Edmonson, III Memorial Scholarship

3.0 GPA, Criminal Justice major

Captain Richard “Rick” Edmonson (1977–2024) had a lifelong connection with Golden West College, beginning as a child at the GWC Child Care Center, then returning as a high school student taking evening classes, and later enrolling full-time while working as a student assistant in the Public Safety Department. After earning his Criminal Justice degree with honors from Cal State Fullerton, he continued his training at GWC’s Specialized Basic Investigators Academy.
Rick went on to build a distinguished career with the California Department of Insurance Fraud Division, advancing from student assistant to Captain. He also served on specialized law enforcement task forces and was a certified Range Master and Krav Maga instructor. Known for his dedication to public safety and training others, he was frequently called upon to teach across the state.
This scholarship honors Captain Edmonson’s lifelong commitment to learning, service, and leadership in law enforcement.
